Dr Hopf received her PhD in Occupational and Environmental Health, specializing in biological monitoring, from the University of Cincinnati (UC), USA, and her MSc in organic chemistry from the University of Oslo, Norway. Previous positions include evaluating toxicology, exposure, and epidemiological evidence for classification of carcinogens for the International Agency for Research Cancer (IARC) performing exposure assessments, retrospective and current exposure assessments at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), risk assessments as a regulatory official for the Norwegian Directorate for Labour Inspection including representing Norway in EU labeling and risk assessment groups.


In her current position as head of the exposure science group at the Institute for Work and Health (IST), she is overseeing and carrying out projects in occupational exposure assessment including occupational hygiene industry-wide field studies, ex-vivo human skin permeation tests of products and active ingredients, inhalation studies exposing volunteers under controlled conditions in an exposure chamber, biomarkers of effect research especially focusing on cancer biomarkers such as frequency of micronuclei in buccal and nasal cells.
